Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez had one of the most iconic on and off romances in the early 2010s.
“We were so in love. Nothing else mattered,” J. Bieber told Complex in 2015 about his relationship with Gomez. He called their relationship a “marriage kind of thing.”
The young couple began dating in 2010, officially split in 2014, and then their relationship fluctuated until 2018.
Funny enough, J. Bieber tied the knot with his current wife on September 13, 2018, just a few months after the breakup.
Not only have old pictures of H. Bieber resurfaced, but old tweets showing her support for her husband’s ex-relationship are circulating as well.
“I don’t care what anyone says but Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez together is the definition of a teenage dream,” H. Bieber wrote on September 23, 2011.
Skyler Rossner, senior, is “on team Selena all the way,” said Rossner.
“I do think Justin is happy with his wife. He just posted two loving pictures with H. Bieber, probably to shove it in their haters’ faces,” said Rossner.
In January 2023, H. Bieber posted a TikTok with Kendall Jenner and Justine Skye. The audio said, “I’m not saying she deserved it, but God’s timing is always right.”
The media assumed that this was aimed at Gomez as she was body shamed earlier that week. H. Bieber claimed that it was all fun and not directed at anyone in particular.
A couple of weeks later, Gomez posted a picture of her laminated eyebrows. In response, Kylie Jenner posted a screenshot of a Facetime call with H. Bieber showing off their own set of brows. This is where things got heated.
“I wouldn’t say this is entirely a press thing, but it’s definitely blown out of proportion from social media considering this instance of pinning women against each other has gone on for SO long,” said Sophia Beruk, senior.
Rossner believes that the media is playing an important role in this alleged “fight,” but that there are some pending disagreements amongst the two.
This past month, Selenators, Gomez fans, have compared the two celebrities and have nit picked a few uncoincidental similarities between them.
For starters, H. Bieber dropped a cooking show immediately after “Selena + Chef ” came out. Also, Gomez got a tattoo of the letter “G” as a tribute to her little sister and shockingly enough, H. Bieber got the same tattoo in the same spot with an unknown meaning.
Unlike most people, Beruk thinks that people are being too hard on H. Bieber, “Selena tells all of her fans to spread love and not hate and acts 100% innocent but will comment on random posts about Justin or Hailey that has nothing to do with her, knowing how her fans will react,” said Beruk.
The hardcore fans are going as far as saying that Justin is still in love with “the one that got away.” In reality, J. Bieber proved his love for H. Bieber by writing a romantic song called “Anyone.” The song expresses how she provides her husband with a sense of stability and how she is the only one he’ll ever love.
“Justin has said he’ll always have a place in his heart for Selena but that does not mean he’d want to leave his wife for an old relationship,” said Beruk.
“Jailey” seems happy, and if there is any unresolved tension with Gomez, the grown adults should be able to hash it out on their own without millions of people budding in.
