At the start of the school 2024-2025 year, the LRHS Executive Council was without a leader; previous council advisor Keysha Mayfield left after 20 years of teaching at Leesville. As the council was looking for a replacement, Kimberly Shepherd stepped up to the task.
The Executive Council deals with many popular school events: Homecoming, Powerpuff, and the Spring Carnival. It takes a great deal of time to be its advisor.
“I felt like when the position was open I felt like that was kinda my cue to sprinkle my little sauce on Leesville,” said Shepherd. Shepherd is a second-year English teacher at Leesville who wants to get more into leadership positions.
Even with her new advisor position, Shepherd doesn’t want to change the way the council runs. “I want them to just keep growing. It seems like the past couple years they’d been doing good, so I just want things to get bigger and better,” said Shepherd.
Shepherd does have several ideas for what she wants the council to accomplish this year. “Hopefully I can get us a homecoming for the spring semester, for us to at least have a pep rally cause we don’t normally celebrate the spring sports like we do for the fall,” said Shepherd.
When she’s not teaching, Shepherd said she likes to travel, eat at fine-dining restaurants, and hang out with her son and family. Shepherd also said if she wasn’t a teacher, she’d probably be an interior designer or a stylist — something focused on creating.
The Executive Council is glad to have Ms. Shepherd advising them. Her ideas make for a wonderful school year.
