Where a plain white wall once stood to the right of a lion head, now stands a replica with an additional quote; the quote was taken from a novel called “The Pride of Lions” written by Marsha Canham.
“I wanted to maintain the pretty mural lion that was already there [which was] done by students,” says Mrs. Jacobs, Principal. When asked about the inspiration behind the additional artwork Ms. Jacobs explains, “I feel like we needed a quote to kind of tie it all together. The muralist that I brought in, she selected the quote [and] I loved the quote.”
Many students at Leesville Road High School have questions and opinions regarding the brand-new mural in Leesville´s cafeteria. “The colors are really well done. I love the blocking of how they all blend together. I think it looks really great! [It’s] fire,” said Madison Rivers, sophomore.
“It’s really colorful and eye-catching, it’s like an accent wall,” said Malique Heslip, junior. Malique is an art student at Leesville who enjoys many styles of art. He explained how the new mural could be distracting, but had an overall positive response to seeing it.
Overall, the new mural in the cafeteria brings a fun and positive vibe to the Leesville community. This recent addition to Leesville has brought a welcoming sense to the cafeteria. The new artwork has already found a way to connect the school environment together through vibrant colors, smooth techniques, and a good moral.
