Love Island is a reality TV show that involves a group of attractive singles who move into a luxury villa in hopes of finding love.
The contestants on the show are named Islanders. Throughout the show, there are twists and challenges to test the true connections between the coupled-up Islanders.
Islanders can be added to the show as “bombshells”. Bombshells are meant to stir up drama and possibly ruin relationships.
The least compatible couples and ingenuine Islanders are dumped from the Island, which ends their summer of love.
At the end of the show, the public votes on which couple has the strongest connection. The public’s favorite couple will win a $100,000 prize.
One partner in the couple will decide if they want to keep all of the prize money for themselves, or they can split the money with their partner.
The History of Love Island
Love Island has been testing if couples are in the Villa for money or for love since June 7, 2015.
The popular reality TV show started in the UK featuring Islanders from London, Birmingham, and Liverpool.
The UK show quickly gained popularity, and now Love Island UK is not the only Love Island streaming during the summer.
Love Island fans can watch several different series including Love Island Norway, Love Island Suomi, Love Island Sweden, and many other Love Island countries around the world.
Love Island USA Background Information
This year, Love Island USA released its sixth season on Peacock. This season included 38 episodes.
Season six has been the most popular of the Love Island USA franchise with audiences viewing over 1.1 billion minutes of the new season.
Fans of the show fell in love with the season six Islanders from June through August.
Production flew out 33 different contestants ranging from ages 21-29 for a summer of love.
One of the reasons the season was so popular was because the contestants were funny and relatable throughout the show.
Ariana Madix, the new host, also gained the show more viewers.
Along with Madix and the contestants, Maura Higgins, who was a finalist on season five of Love Island UK, was made the host of Love Island: Aftersun
Aftersun features gossip and exclusive interviews with the Islanders. Occasionally, fans can watch surprise celebrity guests’ reactions and hear their opinion about everything going on within The Villa.
Behind all of the narrating is Iain Stirling. He is the voice for Love Island USA and UK episodes.
Stirling would crack funny jokes about all of the Islanders to ensure the show is kept entertaining.
Love Island USA Islanders
Stirling focused more time talking about Islanders such as Leah Kateb, Serena Page, JaNa Craig, Kordell Beckham, and Rob Rausch.
Leah Kateb, Serena Page, and JaNa Craig are close friends in a trio. They have been nicknamed PPG because they resemble the Powerpuff Girls.
PPG and their couples all placed in the top three most compatible couples.
Kordell Beckham, Odell Beckham Jr.’s brother, placed first with Serena Page. America loved watching these two grow together as a couple, and Kordell ended the show by proving his loyalty to Serena when he split the $100,000 prize fund.
Rob Rausch was also a fan favorite. He was known for being paired up with several different girls throughout the entirety of the show, along with adding lots of drama and suspense.
These five Islanders were “OGs” meaning they were the first group of people to enter the villa. Being an OG typically makes it easier to get the public’s vote because the longer somebody is in the Villa the more time there is for America to know an Islanders personality.
After the Villa, these OGs have since made an impact on social media through podcasts, music videos, and brand deals.
Leesville’s Opinion on Love Island
Some Leesville students have enjoyed watching all of the Islanders and OGs find love.
“I liked watching Serena. She was super calm and collected. She always spoke her mind in a mature way and she is super pretty,” said Sarah Lynn Rajaratnam, junior.
Also wanting to voice her opinion on the Islanders, Katie Fuhrer, sophomore, said, “My favorite Islander is Leah because she was a boss. She didn’t care what the others thought about her.”
According to a poll posted by The Mycenaean on Instagram, 41% of students have watched the most recent season of Love Island USA.
“I want to watch it [Love Island USA], but I don’t have Peacock, so I can’t,” said Saylor Matthews, junior.
Meanwhile, Cale Thompson expresses why he decided to watch Love Island USA.
“I started watching it with my mom and ever since then I have watched every season that has come out,” said Thompson, junior.
Overall, if you are looking for a new show or series to binge, then Love Island is perfect.
“I would recommend Love Island because it is super entertaining and it’s a good summer show,” said Rajaratnam.
Season six offers so many long episodes that are all lighthearted and fun to watch.
