Application to the National Honor Society is now available to rising juniors and seniors. Students who are interested can log in to their WakeID Portal and join the “2023 LRHS NHS Application” Google Classroom.

The application is due on Monday, May 8, 2023, by 2:30 PM. Students looking to apply to the National Honor Society need a minimum of a 3.6 GPA and must complete a twelve-page application in order to be considered for NHS.

National Honor Society is meant to recognize students who are academically driven and encourage students to practice characteristics and values that will help them become meaningful citizens in the future.

The application focuses on four values, or “pillars”, that students interested in joining the National Honor Society should demonstrate — scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

Students have the opportunity to submit five forms that exemplify their involvement in the school, community, or work activities as a part of their application. The forms must be confirmed by an adult sponsor, someone who is eighteen or older, who can verify the information put forth by the student applicant.

The applications will be considered by the Faculty Council, composed of five LRHS faculty members. The council members will evaluate each student that applies and determine their membership through a majority vote. Students will be notified by the end of August whether or not they have been accepted to NHS.

“I think it’s a really great opportunity to kind of advance your education in a lot of specific areas and follow what interests you,” said Katie Murray, senior and member of NHS, as well as five other subject-specific National Honor Societies.

“I think it’s really given me an opportunity to serve my community and to be a part of something bigger than myself, and find other students at Leesville that are just as driven as I am,” said Murray.
