Leesville Road High School has a new club on the block. The Art Service Club, run by Sophie Davis, junior, came to be this year.

“When I was a freshman, I looked for an art club and I couldn’t find one,” said Davis. “I thought it’d be a great way to get artists involved in the school.”

The club focuses on donating canvas art and paintings to hospitals or nursing homes, according to Davis.

“Also, to connect with patients at hospitals and people at nursing homes because that’s where we mainly donate,” said Davis.

“The project we’re doing right now is each member gets two canvases,” said Davis. “They make an outline and we send it to Wake Med and the patients there can color them in themselves.”

Davis thinks the Art Service Club is a great space for artists to share their work and get to know one another.

“[The club is] a good way to find service opportunities,” said Davis. “It’s also a good way to connect with people that are struggling and need some art and love in their lives.”

The Art Service Club will meet in person every third Thursday of the month in Mr. Shingler’s room, 1204.
