Three former students perform at Winterfest back in 2013. Students were given the opportunity to perform at the dance, but it's unknown if they will be this year.

Winterfest is back! The LRHS Executive Council announced on their Instagram yesterday that, for the first time since 2016, we would have a school dance (not counting prom) and for the first time since 2015 have a Winterfest.

The dance will take place on February 21, 7:00 pm in the Multipurpose room, but depending on ticket sales, location could change. Tickets are only $10, and refreshments will be provided.

Maggie Bell, student council president, was one of the main driving factors towards reviving this Leesville tradition.

“We were having a conversation for council to gage interest and the last time we had a dance was freshman year. We thought since we hadn’t done one in a long time that it would be more successful and have a better turnout,” said Bell.

As most students know, the main reason for not having dances is because attendance was so low when the school used to hold Homecoming and Winterfest.

“Our theme is Winter Wonderland, so it’ll have a wintery spin. The last dance we had in the pit of the cafeteria, so we will definitely have a different feel,” said Bell.

The Executive Council has worked hard on getting a dance and wants to make sure that people come and enjoy their time.

For those that are on the edge about attending, here’s what Bell recommends: “I would say since we haven’t done one of these dances in a long time, this’ll be like a special event especially if you’re an underclassmen and can’t go to prom. We want it to be a memorable event and hopefully allow us to have more dances in the future. It’s also showing school spirit as you’re coming to help build community and just have a night of fun.”

The Exec Council hopes to see you there to celebrate the revival of Winterfest.
