New $100-bill to be released

April 21 will be the big reveal for the United States’ new $100-bill, featuring a different portrait of Benjamin Franklin on the front.

Mr. Franklin’s release party will be in the Department of Treasury’s Cash Room, the same room that Ulysses Grant held his first inaugural ball.

The reason for the government’s multiple revisions of American bills is to reduce counterfeiters. Government officials study the new technologies used to print fake bills as well as old printing presses.

The bill’s introduction is the beginning of a “multi-government public education program.” This program educates people who use the 100-dollar-bill about the various changes before it becomes available to the public.

“A well informed public is our first and best line of defense against counterfeiting,” stated newmoney.gov, a website that educates Americans about the current currency and any news on new bills.

Further information and pictures of the new $100 bill are available at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 21.
