The Leesville Varsity Girls Golf team had tryouts August 19, 20, and 25. They then started practicing to prepare for a great season the next day. 

 

Last year, the girls team had less than ten people, and this year, the team has the max number of players which is twelve. 

 

The large number of people that tried out for the team surprised the returning players and the coach because last year, barely anyone knew about the girls golf team.

 

The team has mostly juniors and seniors, but includes some freshmen and one sophomore.

 

Since the girls practice together for hours after school, they become close friends throughout the season. Evan Taylor, freshman, said, “I am looking forward to meeting new people and having a lot of fun with friends.” 

 

Since she has made friends because of the team, her favorite thing about golf is “definitely the people”. 

 

The girls varsity team practices Tuesday through Thursday at Brier Creek Country Club. While at practice, the team has access to the course, range, chipping green, and putting green.

 

Lilah Wilborne, freshman, agrees that the people make golf more fun. She said her favorite thing is “talking to and meeting different people”.

 

Samantha Gunn, junior, said her favorite thing about the sport is “getting better and better each year”. The girls team enjoys improving their golf game during practices and matches.

 

Taylor loves the satisfaction of playing golf and said that “you make one good shot and that makes you come back”. 

 

The team has their first match against Rolesville at Zebulon Country Club on Tuesday, September 1. The team has six matches in total as well as the Twin Rivers Invitational and the Pinecrest Invitational during late September and early October.
