At Leesville, the vending machine is one of the most visited spots during breaks and lunchtime. It currently offers a good selection of sodas, juices, and bottled water, which students enjoy. However, many students feel that the vending machine could be even better.
A common request among students is the addition of a wider variety of snacks, especially chips. Many students would like to have choices like spicy chips, and even healthier options like baked chips. Right now, the machine mostly has drinks, so it does not fully satisfy students who want a quick snack to go with their drink.
Although there are no snack vending machines available at the moment, there was one in the cafeteria about two years ago that provided various snack options. Many students hope to see it return or be replaced with an updated version to meet current demand.
¨I go to the vending machine pretty much every day and grab a soda, but I always wish there were chips too. A lot of students want it, and it just feels like something we should have by now,¨ said David Furr, sophomore.
Another popular suggestion is to include an energy drink machine. Students, especially those in higher grades, say that energy drinks help them stay alert during long school days and after-school activities. While most wake county schools limit energy drinks for health reasons, students believe that having more control over their drink choices would be a good thing.
¨I really think the school should add energy drinks. A lot of us are tired during early classes or after school, and it would help. Also, there are way too many diet and no sugar drinks in the machine. Most people don’t even buy them. It’d be nice to have more regular drinks that actually taste good,¨ said Lizzy Hill, sophomore
However, Wake County rules do not allow energy drinks or high-sugar drinks to be sold at school during the day. These rules are meant to help students make healthier choices. That’s why most of the drinks in the vending machines are diet or sugar-free. Even though some students don’t like these options, the school has to follow these health guidelines.
While the vending machine is useful, students would appreciate more variety. Adding chips and possibly a machine with energy drinks could make it even more popular and better suited to students’ needs
