After auditions on September 11 and 12, 36 actors emerged for the cast of Mr. Hurley’s Fall production of Crush.
Crush takes place in the doomed town of Pin Cushion, California, where suspicious events unfold around the final high school production of Our Town.
Bark Melon, an optimistic 16 year old, is determined to land a lead role in the play despite past failures. However, his chances are ruined by Aspen, a mysterious new student. Bark is the only one who discovers that Aspen is the leader of a six-bodied alien creature. No one believes Bark’s claims about Aspen’s true identity, leading him to take things into his own hands.
Emily Sendall, senior, who plays Aspen and is the Leesville International Thespian Society (ITS) President, said, “The readthrough helped everybody step into their roles as less of a maybe and more of a yes 100% I am this role.”
Meghan Lamm Assistant Stage Manager, sophomore, said, “It [the readthrough] went really good, everyone was really into it and they were having a blast.”
Sendall is very excited to share her character with everyone, she said, “She’s an alien, very confident, very upbeat, and everything you want in a friend or person but she’s not a person so it’s kinda awkward.” Brandon Hirsch, senior, said, “I’m super excited this a super fun, weird, and interesting show. I’m really excited to see it all come together.”
The show dates are November 14-16 at 7:00 p.m. with a preview on November 13 at 4:30 p.m. The runtime is approximately 105 minutes. There will also be a short intermission featuring a sideshow of a 9 freshmen cast.
