UFL Season

The United Football League, known as the UFL, is a new spring football league created by the merger of the Xtreme Football League (XFL) and the United States Football League (USFL.)

Football fans are thrilled to have a spring football league to fill in the gap time for the NFL offseason.

“I just like football, and there’s no football in the spring, so the UFL kinda fills that void,” said Stephen Salisbury, senior.

The 2024 UFL season started on March 30, 2024, and will end on June 2, 2024. The postseason begins on June 8, 2024, and concludes in June 2024 with the 2024 UFL championship.

Unlike the NFL and other American football leagues, the UFL has a unique set of rules to create an entertaining environment. One of the most intriguing rules includes removing kicking for extra points and replacing it with run or pass plays. Teams can start at the two-yard line for a one-point play, at the five-yard line for a two-point play, or at the ten-yard line for a three-point play.

“I like the rule allowing teams can do a 4th down play in the fourth quarter if they are losing to get the ball again after scoring,” said Mioha Needham, sophomore.

“The kickoff change because it makes kickoffs more exciting instead of a routine touchback, it also reduces the rate of injury,” said Salisbury.

The first matchup of the season featured the reigning XFL champion, the Arlington Renegades, facing off against the reigning USFL champion, the Birmingham Stallions. The Stallions won the game with a score of 27-14.

With the addition of the UFL, fans will no longer suffer from the absence of American football.
