The 2023 Leesville Turkey Trot was a huge success in the Leesville community.

The Turkey Trot is an organized tradition that raises money for the Richard Murphy Scholarship. This year, the fundraiser raised over $20,000 which is double what it made last year. The money goes for student scholarships.

Over 700 people pre-registered for this year’s Turkey Trot and almost 100 people took part in same-day registration.

The 5k race was held on Thanksgiving morning at 8:30 am at the Harrington Grove Clubhouse.

Leesville´s National Honor Society provided snacks and water for the participants to enjoy before and after the race. Other volunteers provided hot chocolate and coffee for the community to enjoy.

Some participants chose to walk alongside their families and pets, while others decided to run in an attempt to win the prizes.

Evan Mitchell was the first to cross the finish line with a winning time of 17:10. Erin Taylor was the first winner of the female bracket with an impressive time of 19:23.

Each winner, overall and from the 16 different age/gender groups, received a donated pie and an embroidered turkey trot hat to commemorate their accomplishment.

This was the 4th annual and most successful Leesville Turkey Trot yet. The money raised will be given to LRHS students in June to help pay for college.
