In the week of April 23, Leesville Road High School preformed “Bring It On!”. The musical was entered into Triangle Rising Stars, a competition dedicated to bringing together high school musical theater students from across Central and Eastern North Carolina. Awards in this competition range from Best Actor and Best Actress to Best Ensemble and Best Musical.

The school that wins in one of these categories results in money being granted to the Theatre department of the school.

Leesville was nominated for Best Ensemble, which consisted of the chorus, cheerleaders and dancers. On May 16, 2017 at DPAC, the award show was held announcing the winner of Best Ensemble, one of only four awards offered that night. Leesville ended up taking home Best Ensemble and a check for $500 for all of their hard work.

Kelsey Holt, sophomore, was a part of the ensemble for “Bring It On!”. “I think the cheerleading part of the musical really helped, but I also think that we sang really well. We both did an amazing job and we couldn’t have won without each other,” said Holt.

Mickey Langley, junior, was one of the student directors for” Bring It On!”

“I was really excited when Ms. Tarson announced that we were nominated for the Triangle Rising Stars competition, because it was the first time that we were nominated and we didn’t know that we would even get recognized. We worked really hard, especially the tumblers and dancers, and I am really proud of them all,” said Langley.
