After years and years of waiting the North Hills time capsule is finally ready to open. After 49 years of waiting, everyone is welcome to watch and participate in the big event. (photo courtesy: North Hills website)

On June 8, North Hills is unearthing their time capsule that was buried 50 years ago. What a fun activity to kick off summer break!

It is exciting to see artifacts from the past that came with the purchasing of North Hills. In 2000, Kane Realty Corporation, the current owner of the shopping complex, bought the area containing the time capsule.

According to a quote from North Hills’s online website, “‘We are excited to see what’s inside the time capsule here in North Hills,’ said Bonner Gaylord, Managing Director of North Hills. ‘We look forward to taking a step back in time to discover the history of North Hills and the city of Raleigh. It should be a fun surprise.’”

In addition to unveiling the old capsule, the city plans to bury another capsule for another 50 years. The businesses and schools involved in the next capsule will be: Aldert Root Elementary, Brooks Elementary, Carroll Middle Douglas Elementary, Sanderson High, St. David’s, St. Timothy’s, GRCVB, Midtown Raleigh Alliance, Kane Realty Corporation, News & Observer and WRAL.

Although those adding artifacts to the time capsule are selected because of their location, I doubt there will be any rejection to an addition of ones own personal belongings. North Hills is in Raleigh and many Leesville students hangout out at this location, I’m sure we can sneak in some Loonie gear!

The festivities will begin at 10 a.m. near Bonefish Grill. All are welcome and admission is free.
