Captain America: The Winter Soldier came to theaters on Friday, April 4. With $95,023,721 after just the opening weekend, this movie has taken over the box office.
The Winter Soldier is the ninth movie in the Marvel’s Avengers series to be released. A direct sequel of Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers, this movie stars Chris Evans (Steve Rogers/ Captain America), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) and Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff/ Black Widow).
The story follows Captain America as he struggles to catch up on the 70 years he spent frozen at the bottom of the ocean. As he faces many new and old enemies, he has to find those he can trust and fight those he cannot, all the while staying true to what he believes is right.
With an 8.3 out of 10 ranking on IMDb.com, The Winter Soldier has set the stage for more movies to follow in the Avengers series, including another Captain America movie which is set to premiere in May of 2016.
One of the unique qualities for this movie is how the actors did as many of their own stunts as possible. By doing this, the least amount of CGI (computer-generated images) possible was used in the final product. However, this in no way took away from the movie; it only improved it. For example, Sebastian Stan (the Winter Soldier) spent months training, so his fight scenes would be as realistic as possible; and they were.
Also, Evans and Johansson contributed by writing the dialogue between their characters for some of the scenes, allowing them to connect with their characters on a better level.
Aside from the fantastic acting, the music, dialogue and settings were a perfect fit for the story. Captain America: The Winter Soldier has definitely been a great continuation of the Marvel’s Avengers series and set the stage for more great movies in the future.
