NC State beat Florida State 17-16 in the perhaps the biggest upset this college football season. Many thought the Florida State Seminoles would blow NC State out, but the Wolfpack hung around and pulled out the last second victory.

NC State relied heavily on its defense throughout the half. Leesville High School’s very own Brandon Pittman had a sack in the second quarter that eventually forced the Seminoles to punt the football.

At the end of the first half, Florida State was looking every bit like the No. 3 team in the country. They were dominating the Wolfpack, and the Seminoles went into the locker room with a 16-0 lead. Ultimately, they would come back out and face a totally different NC State.

The third quarter was mostly uneventful, with the NC State offense putting up a field goal. Then, in the closing seconds of the third NC State cornerback Juston Burris came up with a crucial interception.

Mike Glennon, NC State quarterback, made the turnover count. He led the team down the field and completed a 24-yard completion for the touchdown, which made the score 16-10 with most of the 4th quarter uncompleted.

The Wolfpack and Seminoles had a defensive battle for most of the quarter. Then, with two minutes left  Florida State lined up to punt, and gave NC State one last shot to complete an epic upset. Amazingly, Mike Rose, redshirt freshman, blocked the punt giving NC State a huge chance to upset.

The NC State crowd provided a tremendous home field advantage. “It was crazy, everybody was up,” said Kyle Kubich, junior.

After the blocked punt, the Wolfpack were 43 yards away from the biggest win of their season.

The moment wasn’t too big for Mike Glennon though. NC State converted on two 4th down conversions, and needed one more to score a touchdown 2 yards away.

With 16 seconds left on the clock, sophomore wide receiver Bryan Underwood caught a wide open pass to eventually give NC State the win, 17-16. The ultimate upset was complete.
