The pressure to have everything figured out as a senior

Senior year is supposed to be an exciting time, but for many students, it also comes with a lot of pressure. As graduation gets closer, seniors are expected to make big decisions about college, careers, and their future. Questions like “Where are you going to college?” or “What do you want to do with your life?” can become stressful, especially for students who are still figuring things out.

While some students already have a plan, others are unsure about what comes next. With deadlines, college applications, and expectations from family and teachers. It can feel like everyone needs to have their future figured out before graduation.

Harper Linthicum, senior, said the pressure can sometimes feel overwhelming. ” I feel like everyone expects you to know exactly what to do after high school, but that’s a big decision, I don’t think everyone has to know right away,” said Linthicum.

Social media can make things even harder. Seeing classmates share college acceptances and scholarships can make students feel like they are falling behind, even when they are doing just fine.

Edward Monero, senior, believes students should not be forced to make every decision.

“People make it seem like you need to have your whole life planned out by graduation. I think its okay to take your time and figure out what you actually want,” Monero said.

Although senior year comes with many decisions, students should also remember that there is no single path after graduation. Some may attend college, while others may work or explore different options.

Graduation does not mean having everything figured out. Sometimes, the next step is simply figuring out what comes next.
