Leesville students thrilled for the North Carolina State Fair

The North Carolina State Fair is opening for ten days starting October 15. The 158th annual state fair will host a variety of attractions and activities, ranging from classic fair food vendors to livestock contests.

The variety of events presented at the fair means there is something for everyone. For those looking for rides, there are nearly a hundred, ranging from slow and safe kiddie rides to the fair’s new 230-foot tall ferris wheel. More information can be found on the NCDACS website.

The fair also combines transportation with an incredible view through the State Fair Flyer, a chairlift ride that pays homage to the Wright brothers, who flew the first ever airplane on the beaches of North Carolina.

The fair also has a large livestock division, with the State Fair Arc being home to over 60 animals. Fairgoers can try their hand at milking a cow, watching a pig race, or watching a rodeo.

The Rodeo in particular is designed for kids of all ages, with events ranging from mutton busting – kids under 60 pounds trying to ride a sheep across the arena – to full on bull riding.

Thrill seekers have even more to look forward to on October 23 through 25, with monster truck displays, demolition derbies, and quad racing.

Leesville students are excited for the fair to start. Lucas Barton, sophomore, said, “My family has a tradition where we go with my mom’s side of the family at least once a year.”

Different students have unique views on which fair foods are best. “In all honesty, I think funnel cake is overrated,” Barton said.

Andrew Brown, junior, disagreed. “Fried oreos are overrated because there’s better fried food. Honestly, funnel cakes, churros, they clear.”

Regardless of where Leesville students stand on fair food, it is clear that they can’t wait to buy their tickets and attend the fair once again in 2026, devouring fair food, going on rides, and watching special events.
