On September 30, 2026 Leesville’s chapter of National Honor Society inducted 80 new members.
New inductees were a collection of juniors and seniors that have a weighted GPA of at least 3.6 and exemplified in the areas of service and leadership.
The induction ceremony was held in the auditorium, open to friends, family, and staff members looking to celebrate the achievement NHS stands for.
Induction is a student lead event. There were six existing members assisting in directing inductees, watching personal items, and greeting guests.President Alexis Engelson, Vice President Cayden Kroll, and Secretary Keely Price facilitated the event from the stage.
For some of the officers, induction was the first time being on stage.
Kroll, senior, said, “I think everything went as planned and everything went well. I was definitely nervous, but in the moment I was actually doing it, I just let the nerves go away and did what I needed to do.”
The National Honor Society is built on four pillars: service, leadership, character, and scholarship. During induction, the three officers took time to explain what these pillars represent and their hopes for new members to hold them in high esteem.
The new inductees worked on their NHS applications over several weeks, delving into their experience that would make them qualified to represent the values of Leesville’s NHS chapter.
National Honor Society is not a small commitment; each member is required to complete 20 hours of service before the school year ends. They must participate in three NHS activities, help teachers, and have the option to donate items throughout the year.
Price Capps, junior and new inductee, said, “I joined for colleges and stuff, but I’m excited [for NHS]. I want to run for a position next year.”
National Honor Society is a great opportunity for students to get involved with Leesville, broaden their impact on the community, and build their college resumes.
