As the 2026 football season is underway, students are showing up and showing out. The themes play a big role in the popularity of a game, and the Homecoming Game is often the most significant of the season.
In past years, Homecoming has been later in the season, usually falling around early to mid October. This allows the football team to have multiple games under their belt, while also allowing the anticipation of Homecoming to grow. “I’m so excited. I guess I’m a little worried it will be hot, but otherwise I’m still excited to participate in everything,” said Violet Jordan, a senior at Leesville.
The Homecoming game has historically always come after a long streak of away games. It serves as a way to welcome the team and get their adrenaline up. This year, there was only one long streak of away games, and they led to September 25, 2026, against Athens Drive.
The game is not the only event that happens during Hoco Week. The pep rally, tailgate, Powderpuff, Homecoming dance and court, and the Spirit days all take place in the span of 4 days. All the events need to be staffed, decorated, and prepped for beforehand – and with only 4 short weeks to prepare, the Executive Council is in a time crunch.
Due to the rush in preparations, other issues arise. Mrs. Heather Fields, Executive Council advisor, said via email: “What most people might not realize is that Exec Council is running other school wide events while simultaneously trying to pull off an early Homecoming. Our ambitious Exec officers proposed the idea of a Back to School Club Fair for students to learn how they can get involved in all of our amazing clubs. We are very excited about this event, but adding that to the to-do list while working on Homecoming has been challenging.”
Despite the downsides to having an early Homecoming game, it will without a doubt bring spirit and enthusiasm to Leesville early in the season. The game starts at 7 p.m. on September 25, and as the anticipation builds, so does the pressure of getting everything ready in time.

It makes my day better when I park well.
