Boys soccer is in the midst of their season. With two games a week, practices are crucial. 

Marcus Cooke, junior, said over the phone, “Practice has been going well. It has been very organized and very serious. It has helped us tremendously through the start of the season.” 

Once school started, they didn’t have much time before their first game.

Practices are mostly run by the coaches and Captain Colt Gidley. 

Gidley, senior, said, ”Being a senior, it’s my third year on varsity, and I’m a captain for two years. It’s a lot more responsibility and pressure on you playing. I’m more in charge of leading during practice.”

For Gidley’s season, as well as the other seniors, games and even practices are a lot more important for them, as it’s their last season.

For new members and underclassmen, practices are about taking orders and competing with returning players for playing time.

Charlie Richert, freshman, explained, “I don’t get much playing time if I don’t put my all in at practice.”  

It’s also important that the varsity team is setting the standard for new players trying to move up from JV. 

Richerts said, ”At practice, I try to set a good example for the JV guys.”

With all this practice Leesville has been performing very well. Leesville is 5 – 1 – 1. They have won two in a row and hope to be victorious in both their games this week.

Richert said, ”We have played extremely well… I hope we continue to play this way throughout the season.”
