The LRHS Investment Club was started in 2024 by Neil Shaw, who has now graduated from Leesville. The club’s advisor is Ms. Warren. The club focuses on the stock market, how to manage one’s money, and what it means to invest money.

Ashan James, junior, is the President of the club. James said, “The Investment Club is basically… [where] we’re teaching young adults how to invest for the future.” As president, James is responsible for creating slideshows, teaching club members, and ensuring they are active and engaged in the topic.

Members of the club play games, participate in simulations, and more. They also fill out Google forms that allow the club officers to get an idea of what the members want to learn based on what they have been taught at the meetings.

James said, “We’ll start out with a quick question to see how everyone’s feeling. We’ll go into a slideshow about [the week’s topic]. Last meeting, we did a stock quote, so I taught everybody what they’re looking at when they’re looking at a stock quote. So we’ll go over these mini lessons and then play some games [based] around that.”

At the meetings, the members of the club participate in a simulation that mimics an actual stock market with virtual fake money. In the simulation, participants are given $1,000 to play around with and learn how to invest in the stock market.

Daniel Lee, senior, is the Vice President of the club. Lee said, “We’re all about introducing other people to financial literacy and just to teach them about what investing your money really means.” As Vice President, Lee is in charge of running the club’s Instagram account and choosing which topics to talk about alongside the president. He also has the task of running the club’s Remind and doing research and creating presentations depending on the week’s topic.

In the club, there are four officer positions that include the President, two Vice Presidents, and the Secretary. Aside from James as the president and Lee as one of the vice presidents, the other officer positions are held by Ben Brady, senior, as the other vice president, and Tyler Cook, junior, as the secretary.

Lee said, “I was a member [of the Investment Club] before I became an officer first, but I thought it would be an opportunity to actually learn more about [investment], and once I got it, I had the knowledge, and I felt like I could teach people as well who are interested.”
