Recap of Women’s Soccer Tryouts

Leesville Road High School was recently in the process of women’s soccer tryouts. The tryouts took place at the big field on Monday, Feb 15 —  Wednesday, Feb 18.

In order to try out the girls had to send their information into Dragonfly.

The tryouts were separated into three days, and the upper and lower classmen were split between the days.

Claire Barr, freshman, said, “The seniors and juniors tried out on the 16th at like 3 to 4:30, the 17th were freshman and sophomore at the same time as the 16th, and then [Wednesday was] both upper and lower classman.”

The preparation for tryouts was said to be pretty straightforward. Many of the girls did summer workouts where they trained and got in shape for the tryouts.

Lucia Namey, junior, said, “Usually the workouts start around Thanksgiving time, and they go up until tryouts. We had them twice a week every Monday, and Wednesday. It really helped me with my fitness levels.”

Many girls  tried out again. They all were saying that the reason they came back is because of the welcoming environment, and the friends that you make.

Lucia Namey, junior, said, “Soccer’s so much fun to play and all my best friends play for the school team, so it’s like a family and a community that you get to play for.”

The tryouts started with the girls running, and doing different soccer drills. The tryouts ended with the girls being split into different teams and scrimmaging to see how they play in a game-like situation.

Overall most of the girls who tried out said that the tryouts were successful and enjoyable.
