Who deserved to win the Grammys 2026?

On Sunday, February 1, the Grammys were held in Los Angeles. Music stars like Kendrick Lamar, Bad Bunny, Tyler, the Creator, Lady Gaga, and more were nominated for their respective songs. New artists like KATSEYE, Alex Warren, Olivia Dean, and Leon Thomas took the stage to showcase what they’re bringing to the music industry. But after the award show, a lot of talk was brewing on social media about who deserved to win and who didn’t. Here are my opinions of the artists who were at least deserving of a Grammy

Song of the year

Billie Eilish took home the Grammy for Song of the Year with her song ‘WILDFLOWER’. Though I think this was a great song, I don’t think that it really took over 2025. Maybe around the time HIT ME HARD AND SOFT was released, but ‘Golden’ was a song I heard everywhere; Social media, sporting events, etc. Even ‘APT’ by Bruno Mars and Rosé, a song I have a love-hate relationship with, was an unescapable song.

Best pop solo performance

Lola Young won Best Pop Solo Performance for her song Messy, and I disagree with this. I don’t think this is a good song that really shows off Lola Young’s vocals, and the instrumental is kind of bland. Chappell Roan showcases her strong vocals in ‘The Subway’. Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Manchild’ has an upbeat, funky country vibe that makes you dance, and her vocals bring the song together. I would’ve been happy with one of those two choices instead.

Best R&B album

Honestly, I’m proud of Leon Thomas for winning these categories with his album Mutt. This is a breakout year, and I’m glad he’s getting more recognition. But I do think that Giveon’s Beloved was an outstanding album with beautiful instrumentals, and that album would’ve been a perfect win for his first Grammy.

Rightful Winners

I was happy that Bad Bunny won album of the year, although some of my favorite albums were in the running, like Chromokopia and Man’s Best Friend. Bad Bunny is at the height of his career, and the continuous showcase of his artistry is why he won multiple Grammys that night. Kendrick Lamar and SZA deserved Record of the Year. Luther is a beautiful song that was always played on the radio. Olivia Dean was a perfect Best New Artist winner, and I can’t wait to see what she has in store.

Tons of artists showed their immense talent Sunday night. Though in my opinion, some choices were debatable, winning a Grammy is a huge milestone for an artist in their career and shows they’ve made it in the music industry.
