With the start of LRHS’s spring musical, The Addams Family, the technical theatre crews have hosted their crew signups. The crews will begin their weekly (or biweekly) meetings this upcoming week.
The theatre department’s fall and spring shows would not be possible without the help of the tech crews. The crews are divided into two types: soft tech and hard tech.
Hard tech crews include set construction and shifting crew, props crew, paint crew, lights crew, and sound (which is then divided into soundboard and body mics). These crews are great for people who prefer to work hands-on with the mechanics of the shows, such as moving set pieces on and off set or working with light and sound cues.
“Getting to work hands-on with machines and being able to collaborate with people in group spaces,” said Preston Carter, sophomore, when asked about his favorite thing about set crew.
The other side of tech is soft tech, which includes hair, makeup, and costume crews. These crews work hands-on with actors to ensure the director’s vision for the show’s aesthetic stays true across all actors’ looks.
“What’s exciting about makeup crew is that we’re able to teach other kids how to do makeup… which grows their own skills in makeup and can help them in the future,” said Maren Uria, junior.
During the week, you can find tech kids in the arts hallway: soft tech crews in Ms. Wrayno and Mr. Hurley’s room on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, set in the shop on Mondays and Fridays, props in the loft on Wednesdays, or lights and sound in the booth on Fridays. Leadership will begin their first meetings this week and work with their new members to get to know each other and teach them the basics of the crews.

Watching a movie makes my day better.
