The LRHS women’s JV Basketball season wraps up

As the LRHS JV women’s basketball season comes to an end, the team looks back on the tough competition and challenges they’ve had to overcome. Through months of hard work and difficult games, the team also reflects on the growth they’ve made both on and off the court.

During this season, the girls faced some of the hardest teams in the conference. Many games went down to the last minute — some even to the last second — forcing the girls to stay focused and determined until the very end.

Even when the scoreboard didn’t go their way, the team used each game as a chance to learn and improve. “I stayed focused by… communicating with my teammates, taking advice from my coach and the sidelines,” said Megan Whitehead, a sophomore.

Off the court, the team built strong friendships through bus rides, pregame meals, and cheering each other on. The bond they created was visible during games. “It started on the court, just passing around, and then outside basketball we started riding around on scooters and going to Target,” said Mollie Matney, a freshman.

Matney explains how her and a fellow player’s relationship transitioned outside of practice. Teammates encouraged one another after a missed shot or a successful basket. The relationships players formed during the season were just as important as the outcome of the games.

Under the instruction of the coaches, the team not only learned new basketball skills, but also what discipline really is, and how to stay positive during difficult moments. The coaches motivated the team to work hard at all times. Head coach Latricia Snead said, “You always got to be disciplined when you put your mind to something, whether it’s on the court or off the court.”

As the 2025-26 basketball season ends, the LRHS women’s JV players leave the court with more than just wins and losses. They leave with new friendships, memories, and basketball skills that will help them in later seasons.
