Lots of people create New Year’s resolutions as a way of bettering themselves and reaching new goals they want to achieve. This can be a range of things, from working out more to traveling to new places. New Year’s resolutions help people to improve their way of living and become better people.
Hannah Holder, senior, has a New Year’s resolution of reading her Bible more. Holder said, “Every time I do my night routine, I just, I’m trying to stay grounded and instead of scrolling on my phone, like doom scrolling… I can at least read a page.” Holder hopes to spend less time on her phone to grow in her faith. “I feel like I’m chronically online, and [I hope] just to get in touch with my faith again. And grow a stronger connection, because in 2026, you know, anything and everything can be thrown your way.”
Creating resolutions for the new year gives lots of people a sense of accomplishment, and they strive to achieve the goals and plans they set by creating things such as lists, reminders, and even vision boards.
Nate Shafer, junior, said, “My New Year’s resolution is not to let anybody stand on your toes. Know that you are the baddest out there and don’t let anybody dull your sparkles.” In the new year, Shafer hopes to not allow people to walk over and control him. Shafer said, “[Overall I] plan to become a better person, a more rounded individual, and really learn to know myself.”
As the new year rolls in, establishing and achieving one’s resolutions and goals is a good way of setting personal expectations for oneself and creating a good start to 2026.

It makes my day better when someone compliments me.
