This year, Leesville has embraced new traditions to make the winter season more festive. From community service to decorating the halls, Leesville’s students are set on making this December memorable.
The Leesville Blizzard is one of the most significant new traditions this year – incorporating a teambuilding opportunity in advisory to make and cut out paper snowflakes. This new schoolwide activity allows students to connect with those around them while also giving the school halls some winter spirit.
The Leesville Executive Council took on the task of taping the snowflakes around the school and making banners to give the tradition something extra. With the help of councils and organizations like Exec, Leesville can take a small idea of decorating for winter and turn it into a reality.
These new traditions allow students, family members, and staff to express their Leesville pride. “The participation of new traditions and repeated ones… brings people in the Leesville community a chance to donate and give back to the wider scale community that is outside of our school,” typed Eva Wilson, senior, via text.
As the season of giving approaches, new Leesville fundraisers and charity drives emerge as well. Alexis Engelson, a junior at Leesville, has created a toy drive as a way for Leesville students to support the Toys for Tots organization. “I hope this toy drive sparks Leesville’s holiday spirit by reminding everyone to give back,” typed Engelson, via text.
There are dozens of charity opportunities offered and hosted by the Leesville community, but the winter tends to be the most meaningful time to give back. Many Leesville clubs host charity drives that give service hours for donated items. Engelson’s toy drive is offering up to two hours of service by donating toys (more information can be found on flyers around campus).
Participating in Leesville’s winter traditions is the only way to keep them thriving. Whether that’s donating to an organization, cutting paper snowflakes, or simply buying a ticket to the holiday dance concert, any engagement in Leesville activities makes a difference.
