After Halloween, the Halloween decorations start to be put away, and people transition into the next season of the year. The debate has been going on for years and years about when exactly Christmas decorations should start to be put up: after Halloween or after Thanksgiving?
Some students think that people should still embrace fall for as long as it lasts, and keep up fall decorations until Thanksgiving, which they see as a fall holiday. They argue that jumping into Christmas too early skips over an important time of year filled with autumn traditions.
“I like to keep out pumpkins still and wait until Thanksgiving is over before decorating for winter. I feel like the Christmas season doesn’t really start until December, so might as well let fall last as long as possible,” said Lyla Ferguson, junior.
Other people prefer to get straight to decorating for Christmas immediately after Halloween, starting winter early, and enjoying the holiday cheer for as long as possible.
Tori Hay, freshman, said, “The day after Halloween, my family and I immediately take down Halloween decorations and get out the Christmas decoration bin. We spend the day decorating and make it a whole event, with Christmas music and watching some Christmas movies. It’s really fun and gets us in the festive mood… I decorate the tree I keep in my room too, and it just makes me feel happy.”
No matter which side people are on, everyone can agree that decorating brings joy and holiday spirit.

It makes my day better when I say hi to someone I haven’t seen or talked to in a while.
