The holiday season is approaching, and events around Raleigh. Whether it’s ice skating or making fun crafts, there’s always something to do from November through January. Here are a few things to enjoy with family, friends, or even a day out by yourself.
Chinese Lantern Festival
The Chinese Lantern festival runs from November 15 through January 11. The festival lets you walk through a brightly lit park featuring large handcrafted lanterns that showcase different aspects of Chinese culture. There are over 40 different displays to discover. The festival doesn’t stop at lanterns; it features captivating acrobatics, ballet, and traditional Chinese dances. It even has spaces for kids to play. This is always a fun event for families.
Raleigh Christmas Parade
ABC11’s annual Christmas Parade makes its stop in Raleigh on November 22. Hundreds of floats, balloons, marching bands, and performances cover the streets of Downtown. Every year, there are always new surprises at the parade featuring characters known to people of all ages, such as Christmas stormtroopers. The parade is also a way for new businesses to establish their name. Supporting these businesses greatly benefits the Raleigh community. Last but not least, Santa and Mrs. Claus make an appearance towards the end of the parade, which will surely get kids excited. Join 60,000 spectators, have a hot chocolate, and enjoy the parade.
Symphony and Performances
If you enjoy music and performance, Raleigh is hosting several symphony concerts at the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts. Holiday Pops starring Broadway star Mamie Parris is in Raleigh from November 25 through December 17. The Raleigh Symphony will play fun Christmas carols and classic Christmas songs, which is great for the whole family. On December 6, The Nutcracker showcases beautiful ballet dances, shimmering dresses, and a variety of characters to get everyone in the holiday spirit.
THE RINK
Ice skating is always one of the best outings with friends. Glide across the ice at the Red Hat Amphitheater while drinking hot chocolate, playing a variety of fun games, and enjoying snack bars. There are even multiple photo ops stations. Be sure to dress warmly and stay cozy.
Brier Creek Tree Lighting Ceremony
Swing by Brier Creek Commons to see the bright lights light up the Christmas tree. Christmas jams, face painting, and train rides are all perfect for the family. Don’t miss a guest appearance by Santa Claus himself when he lights the tree for Brier Creek to see.
Candle Making
Take a drive to Fenton in Cary and make candles inside the winter igloo. Pour your own hand-made custom candles and explore different scents. An instructor will provide you with guidance along the way, sharing tips on caring for your candle. This is a fun experience if you want to sit back and relax for a calm day.
Holiday Cookie Decorating Pop-up
Want to make some yummy holiday treats? Head down to the Weaver Street Market in Downtown Raleigh on December 14 for some cookie decorating. Hot chocolate, cookies, and decoration items will be provided, so no purchases are necessary.
Handcrafted Holiday Market
The NC State Fairgrounds will host its largest holiday market on December 20-21. Over 200 booths featuring a wide range of crafts will be on display for purchase just in time for the holidays. Listen to live music, discover new food trucks, and meet Santa.
There are plenty of fun things to do around the triangle that fit everyone’s preferences. Go out and create something special for the holidays, or just enjoy spending time with the people you love most, because that’s what makes the holiday season special.
