Black Friday is one of the most anticipated shopping events of the year. This year, Black Friday falls on Friday, November 28. It marks the unofficial start to the holiday shopping season.
Retailers and many companies prepare for Black Friday months in advance, promoting their upcoming deals and stocking up on extra merchandise. Many stores even expand their hours to gain as much business as possible. In the weeks leading up to the event, advertisements begin circulating through emails, social media, and on television. These advertisements help brands get their name out there and encourage shoppers to check out their sales.
Maili Aronson, senior, said, “Black Friday is the best day ever! I love to shop till I drop. I look forward to Black Friday every year, and I save up all my money for it. I arrive early to beat everyone else so that I can get the best bang for my buck. This is also when I get a lot of my Christmas gift shopping done as well.”
Black Friday looks very different today than in years past. The typical Black Friday experience includes waking up early and rushing to stores in hopes of securing the best deals. Shoppers would often wait in long lines waiting to sprint inside right when the doors open. As crowds poured into stores, the atmosphere could quickly become chaotic, sometimes with fights breaking out.
However, in recent years, Black Friday has evolved significantly as online shopping continues to grow. Many people prefer to just stay at home and shop online to find the best deals, as they are able to avoid long lines and a crammed environment. Despite these changes, the spirit of Black Friday stays alive, no matter if you choose to shop in person or online.
