The First Day of School vs. Last Day of School

The first and last days of school are both important milestones in every student’s school year — whether it’s setting goals for the rest of the year with anticipation and excitement or looking forward to summer plans and reminiscing on the year. These days are filled with high expectations and strong emotions.

However, they can be very different.

The first day of class gives students and teachers alike an opportunity for new beginnings. For some, a feeling of uncertainty comes with navigating a new schedule, meeting new peers, and adjusting to a new routine. Many students look forward to events like Homecoming, Spirit Week, or the first break of the year.

On the other hand, the last day of school is filled with nostalgia and celebration. There is no more nervousness, making  Leesville feel relaxed and almost lighter. Seniors are looking forward to graduation and doing fun activities before exams like the Senior Picnic and Senior Sunset.

Students no longer have to worry about exams or studying for their next quiz. All they need to do is make sure their best friends signed their yearbook or that they told their favorite teacher how much they are going to miss being in class.

In short, the first day symbolizes a clean slate and a fresh start, while the last day represents endings and achievements, together they show a cycle of change and growth. Some students enjoy one over the other, and others find it hard to pick a favorite. Whether you like it or not you’ll always have to go through both.
