As the new school year begins, one of the most significant changes to the school relates to the parking lot. New rules and regulations are in place for students who drive too and from school, aswell as harsher consequences for those who break them.
All students applying for a student parking pass for the 2025-2026 school year are required to complete an online course in order to obtain their pass. The course requires students to follow along a basic slideshow listin rules of the parking lot. Once the slideshow is completed, students must take a multiple-choice exam to complete the course. Students who applied for a parking pass before the first day of class attended an in-person class hosted by an administrator.
A central focus of these courses is updating students on the new parking lot regulations. The lot now has a strictly enforced 15-mile-per-hour speed limit, and students are prohibited from switching lanes when leaving to reduce the risk of accidents. Another significant emphasis is the restriction on backing into parking spaces, a rule that has raised concerns among some students.
“I think that rule is kind of stupid, backing into your spot is the safest way to park,” said Alex Hayes, a Junior.
The school will also be imposing a $55 fine for any violators in hopes of ensuring that they are heeded.
Other students have cited that many drivers may have problems with following the new regulations, “(I think) people will have a problem with changing lanes when leaving school,” said Cailyn Boswell, a Junior.
Overall, the new regulations stand with the hope of ensuring an added layer of safety is in place for students who drive to school — enforcing new safeguards for the most vulnerable aspects of driving throughout the lot.
