All about Capital Pride

Capital Pride is Leesville’s most advanced choir, showcasing a blend of talent, teamwork, and dedication.

The choir is split up into many different leadership roles to make sure it remains organized, such as choir managers and section leaders.

The choir managers play a crucial role in ensuring everything runs smoothly. They “[manage] attendance, keep people on track, and [relay] important messages from Ms. Dickens,” said Aiden Fiander, senior, who is one of the choir’s directors.

Fiander has three years of experience with both chorus and Capital Pride, actively contributing to the choir.

As a section supervisor, teamwork is essential. This role involves “guiding sectionals and adjusting practices based on the group’s needs,” said Nina Sugiyama-Allen, senior, who is a section supervisor of Capital Pride. She shares that “Sing” is her favorite piece that Capital Pride is working on currently, showing the choir’s focus on quality.

As a senior, Sugiyama-Allen encourages newcomers to practice as much as possible — noting that every member’s contribution is vital for the choir’s success.

There are many newbies coming in this year who have previously been in Beginning or Intermediate Chorus. Leah Wiest, junior, who is one of these newbies “appreciates the close-knit community,” describing it as “more of a family” compared to her previous experience in Beginning Choir.

Wiest is enjoying the challenge of singing more complex music and is “looking forward to the concert with people who are equally as dedicated to their music.”

Capital Pride is more than just a choir; it’s a community where members support one another and strive for excellence. Leaders such as Fiander and Sugiyama-Allen, along with newcomers like Wiest, continue to help contribute to the choir’s ongoing success.
