Leesville Principal Chats Kick Off the New School Year

Ms. Jacobs hosts principal chats at the beginning of the year in order to touch base with the students and remind them of the school policies.

Students attend the principal chats in the auditorium based on the locations of their second period classes.

Ms. Jacobs spoke about certain rules such as safety regulations and dress code, as well as behavioral expectations. She talked about how to behave and react to emergencies in safe and efficient manners.

The new phone policies are discussed as well as the restrictions on bringing personal devices. Ms. Jacobs talked about when phones are allowed and how the students will be punished if they are caught using them.

There are mixed opinions from the students regarding the new policies as well as the regulations.

Most students disagree with the new phone and personal device ban. Many believe that being able to use their own devices helps them work more efficiently due to being already comfortable with the device.

Varun Medikonda, senior, said, “The school chromebooks they give us are slow. Personally, I do my work more efficiently on my Mac because it’s faster and smoother to work with.¨

More students agree with the safety policies and believe that they truly are helpful and important to keep in mind. It is crucial to know how to react to emergencies in order to keep yourself and everyone around you safe.

Eva Wilson, senior, said, ¨I agree with the safety regulations. I think she was very descriptive on how people can stay safe during emergencies and also how to behave during emergencies of different sorts. That’s really good because all of the people should know about them.¨

All in all, the principal chats have proven to be very helpful and educational. Even though there are many different opinions on the matter, students put in effort to follow all of the expectations.
