Why October is the Best Month

October is undoubtedly the best month out of the entire year. Not only is it the month of pumpkin spice and everything nice, but it’s the month of everyone’s favorite person’s birthday: ME.

Weather, holidays, sports, and fall tv shows and flavors make October the best month.

October is the start of fall, so the weather is amazing. It is around 75 degrees with a slight breeze which is perfect for shorts, a t-shirt, and maybe a light sweater.

Some nights are a little more chilly which is great when you sit around a bonfire with your friends and family in sweatpants and UGGs.

Some might say that the weather is the same as during spring, but the spring months are rainy and there are so many bugs.

During October and other fall months, the bugs start to reach the end of their life cycle which means there are much less of them which is fantastic for me and other germ haters. There is also significantly less rain due to the Earth’s rotation and other science things I learned in Dr. Eagle’s APES class.

October is also the month of Halloween which is the best holiday. You can laugh as you scare your jumpy friends, force them to go to Panic Point, and watch them scream as actors in face paint jump out at them.

During Halloween, you can dress up as whatever you want. You can dress gory to scare trick or treaters, or you can take more of a Mean Girls approach at a party with your friends.

The decorations are my favorite part of Halloween. I can walk through your neighborhood at night and feel like I’m in a graveyard or an abandoned circus, the whole world changes into whatever I want it to be for the month of October.

For people who still go trick or treating, candy is a great part of Halloween. People think that going out and begging for candy is just for little kids, but teenagers deserve to have some fun too, so don’t let fun hating Karens scare you out of trick or treating this year.

October is also the most beautiful month of the year. The leaves change colors, but they aren’t brown and dead yet. Driving through the mountains of North Carolina during October is the most aesthetic thing you can do, the leaves on the trees are a perfect mix of orange, red, and yellow; it feels like a scene from “Gilmore Girls”.

Speaking of “Gilmore Girls,” during October is when many people start the binge. Watching all the way from the beginning of the show until Rory drops out of Yale is the best use of your time during the fall months.

While you can watch “Gilmore Girls” the rest of the year, the fall is the time that most people prefer to watch it because most of the show takes place during the fall and it matches the aesthetic.

When October comes, pumpkin spice girlies go crazy. Every day, pumpkin spice obsessed girls show up to Leesville Road High School with their pumpkin spice latte, after eating a pumpkin spice pop tarts for breakfast, with a pumpkin spice muffin ready for them at home after school.

For sports lovers out there, October is the only month in the year where all four national sports are scheduled to be played in the US. The NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL all have games scheduled for the month of October.

November may have all sports playing as well depending on how long the MLB world series runs, but October is the only month where they have regularly scheduled games.

While October is very fun, there are also important things that we celebrate and bring attention to this month.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is October. Millions of dollars are donated every year to breast cancer research during the month of October because of the extra attention paid to the disease. People who have suffered with the disease are recognized for their strength and resilience during this month.

October is also the home month of Indigenous Peoples Day where some celebrate the history and culture of native americans, and some celebrate the day off from school that they get to spend with their friends.

Around this national holiday is a little local holiday for me and those close to me. My birthday! This year, I get to spend my birthday out of school and surrounded by my friends and family thanks to Indigenous Peoples Day.

I will be turning 18, so I am going to wake up and first thing I’m going to the store to buy a lottery ticket and researching tattoo shops to get my first tattoo.

While my birthday is by far the most exciting thing in October, there are many other things that make this month the best out of the entire year.
