The best food vendors at the NC State Fair

The North Carolina State Fair typically gets around 100 to 150 different food vendors and trucks across the grounds.

One of the more popular food trucks during the State Fair is Peachey’s Baking Company. The company is most popular for its famous donuts, which are cooked right in front of you when purchasing one. As long as donuts, Peachy´s Baking Company is famous for the oversized Amish soft pretzels. The lines for these delicious treats can become really long, but they move quickly.

Another popular food to get at the State Fair is The Cookie House. They are known for serving warm baked cookies, fresh out of the oven. People order these cookies in either cups or in entire buckets with the side of cold milk. Both Peachey´s Baking Company and The Cookie House are known for having some of the longest lines in the State Fair.

A viral food mainly coming from TikTok is a brand called the Golden K Dog. It´s a very loved food truck with Korean corn dogs. Unlike normal American corn dogs, the Korean corn dog has customizable fillings, crunchy outer coatings, and sweet or savory toppings. These corn dogs can be coated in hot cheeto dust, ramen noodles, sugar, takis dust, cheeto dust, and even potatoes.

The most popular Korean corn dog to get is the hot cheeto dust corn dog. When biting into a Korean corn dog, a thick block of mozzarella cheese creates a huge cheese pull. With the mozzarella cheese, there is half a hot dog on the bottom half and mozzarella cheese on the top half. Korean corn dogs blew up on social media and have been very popular towards teenagers ever since.

In addition to fried food, fruit smoothies are also very popular at the Fair. There is a very creative concession called Tropical Delights. They are very famous for their fruit smoothies served in real pineapples.

Instead of a standard cup, the fruit smoothie sits directly inside a fresh-cut whole pineapple, with fresh cut pineapple slices, strawberries, and a cocktail umbrella on top of the drink. The smoothies are blended using real purees, dairy, ice, or non-dairy bases. The most popular flavors are Strawberry-Banana, Mango-Pinapple, Pina Colada, and Passion Fruit.

With all the fried foods, sugarery funnel cakes, and heavy bacon creations, Tropical Delights stands out by being refreshing, cold, and a good thing to sip on while in a large crowd.

One of the more interesting concessions vendors at the NC State Fair is Chester’s Gators & Taters. They are known for their southern fair classics, and wildly new dishes each year. One of the crazier dishes they serve is deep-fried gator bites.

True to the name, they are one of the few vendors where people can get seasoned, fried alligator meat with different sauces. Also as in the name of the vendor, they make loaded taters. These have a huge portion of specialty fries and tater tots with cheese sauce, bacon, jalapenos, and gravy.

Every year, Chester’s Gators & Taters enter into the annual NC State Fair Competition for creative, over the top dishes. They enter their Hot Honey & Pimento Cheese French Fries, Loaded Popcorn Chicken Sundae, and Deep-Fried Loaded Cheese Puffs. Chester´s Gators & Taters vendor is a go-to spot if someone is looking for savory, comfort-style fair food.

One of the strangest sweet and savory creations at the NC State Fair is pickled cheesecake, served by Davis Concessions. Rather than just having a pickle on top of the dessert, the cheesecake itself is infused with a pickle flavor throughout the cream cheese base. The cheesecake is topped with pickle toppings, a drizzle of syrup, and some fresh pickle spears or chips.

The result of these two items being blended together is a sour, salty, and vinegary taste. People who love a sweet-and-sour taste flavor tend to surprisely like to enjoy the pickle cheesecake dish, while others just try it for a photo and a good laugh.

The North Carolina State Fair is extremely fun and a good time to spend time with friends. The food will always be good to try new things, and see cool, creative foods.
