New Journalism and Media Honors Society at Leesville

Attention all students who have been in Newspaper, Yearbook, or Literary Magazine for two or more semesters, Quill and Scroll, the honor society highlighting students in journalism and media, is opening a chapter at Leesville this year.

Wednesday, September 30, 2026, was the interest meeting for the new honor society and the first official meeting will be Monday, October 5, 2026. At this meeting, officers will be elected and explain what products you need to make for service hours.

These products can be either a short article, which is an article that reports on the service project that you did, or a photo spread of the service that you did.

Students need to submit seven service hours a year to remain in the society and three of those need to be a product.

Aubrey Seda, senior, is excited for the meeting on Monday and can’t wait to learn more.

“I’m excited for the next meeting to learn a little bit more about the club and what the short articles and photo spreads are,” said Seda.

Seda has been in yearbook for five semesters and has held multiple leadership positions. Seda said, “I’ve served multiple positions like Panoflow section editor, social media and publicity editor, and now I’m academic editor in chief.”

Seda plans on running for an officer position, but isn’t sure which one yet.

Claire Adams, senior, is another yearbook student who plans on joining Quill and Scroll.

“I thought [Quill and Scroll] was a really cool way to showcase what we do… and connect us with the community in a way, describing what it’s like to volunteer in high school and representing that,” said Adams.

Adams has also been in yearbook for five semesters and plans on running for Vice President.

The founders of the chapter are excited and can’t wait to meet everyone.
