Leesville Students Search for Future College and Career Paths

Leesville Road High School students are struggling to decide what they want their college plan and career to be. Few students, especially below their grade 12 year, don’t know what they want to study, let alone know where they want to go to college.

It’s often easier for students to rule out topics they know they are not interested in studying than it is for them to decide what they want to study.

Lila Cobin, sophomore, said “I know more of what I don’t want to study much better than I actually do.”

School clubs and classes are often helpful to students looking for career inspiration. Gabby Bohn, junior, said, “I figured out that I wanted to be a forensic psychologist through a unit in my psychology class that was about psychological disorders and it really interested me.”

Students find themselves often completing clubs and extracurriculars just in case they might want to explore that career in college.

Even some seniors are struggling with what they want to study in college, with many applying to schools for exploratory studies.

Schools with exploratory studies programs like North Carolina State University have experienced a major increase in student applications over the past few years.

Figuring out college and career plans isn’t easy, taking a lot of planning and consideration. Schools are providing resources that some students aren’t aware of.

Leesville students have opportunities in clubs, classes, Career College Promise, and counselor meetings to help them find a career.
