The Pride Productions theatre department at Leesville Road High School consists of many different elements, both on the stage as well as behind the scenes.
Theatre students who pursue acting at Leesville typically begin by taking Mr. Hurley’s Beginning Theatre class and advance from there.
Ella Harriss, freshman, is currently taking Beginning Theatre this semester and plans to audition for shows in the future. Harriss said, “It’s kind of scary [acting on stage] because I haven’t done it very much… but it’s interesting to become a character.” Harriss has seen all of the shows this year and said she loved the Honors Theatre Ensemble production of Antigone.
Aside from acting on stage, many theatre students are members of crews. Hard tech crews, led by technical theatre teacher/director Ms. Wrayno, consists of set construction, sound, lights, props, and house. Soft tech crews, led by Mr. Hurley, consists of hair, makeup, paint, and costumes.
Lucy Hill, freshman, was a member of sound crew for body mics during both the fall play Anne of Green Gables and spring musical The Addams Family. Hill said, “[On sound crew] I mic people, it’s very time consuming.” Although she was on tech for the shows this year, Hill plans on auditioning for the fall play next year. Hill said, “I have seen three of four shows [this year, and] I loved [The] Addams Family.”
Whether it’s portraying a character on stage, or helping to bring the story to life backstage, there is a place for everyone within the LRHS Theatre department.

It makes my day better when someone compliments me.
