The LRHS Theatre spring trip

For spring break, the LRHS theater department took a trip to Greece and Italy. While many theater students traveled to Europe for the trip, any student was welcome to join regardless of their involvement in the department. Mr. Hurley and many parents accompanied students on the trip.

The students flew into Rome for their first day and toured the city for four days. They visited beautiful landmarks such as the Trevi Fountain in the Trevi District, explored the Temple of Caesar, headed to the Colosseum–where they participated in hands-on gladiator training–and attended a concert at St. Paul’s Cathedral.

“[It] was probably seeing all the differences between the U.S and there… even just how they function with their sidewalks and their crossing is just so different,” said Eva Wilson, senior, when asked about her favorite part of visiting Rome.

While in Italy, the students experienced Italian cuisine at many restaurants. They ate at Il Giardino Ristorante at the Hotel Eden, Ristorante Tomoko Tudini in the capital, and Proganda Italian Cuisine.

After their fourth day in Italy, the students flew to Athens after a brief layover in Germany.

In the incredibly historic city of Athens, the students went sightseeing the beautiful landmarks such as the Greek Parliament building (also known as the Old Royal Palace), witnessed the changing of the guards at the old palace, visited the 1896 Olympic Stadium, and toured the ancient citadel of the Acropolis.

“My favorite part of visiting Athens [was] probably the history behind every landmark that we saw. That was really cool, like the Roman Empire was really cool,” said Tanner Elmore, senior.

Apart from all the sightseeing, the students also got to go shopping in Omonoia Square and see a production of Josephine the Singer at the Greek National Opera.

“It was definitely very weird, very different… I don’t really have an opinion on it, but if I could understand it, I would,” said Tanner.

“It was definitely really modern compared to what I was expecting…. It was a performance based off of a short story by Kafka… so it was really powerful to see a modern interpretation,” said Eva Wilson.

All the students had a really good time exploring new countries, and the LRHS theater department is excited for another opportunity to travel for their next trip.
