When you’re in high school, there are many unspoken societal rules that most teenagers try their best to follow. Nobody wants to get made fun of, so most people stick to the norms.
Yet there seems to be this invisible line between whether or not it’s “weird” to dress up.
I love dressing up for the holidays, whether that’s wearing red from head to toe and bringing heart sunglasses to school for Valentines day, or wearing Christmas pants with jingle bell earrings for Christmas.
Most people nowadays want to blend in with everyone around them, not many people want to be the odd one out in a group. And that includes bringing attention to yourself by dressing up in something other than “ordinary clothing”.
Lucy Johnson, senior, said, “People nowadays don’t like to stand out too much. They like to fit in, and not many people dress up so fitting in means not dressing up for anything.”
There’s also the people who truly just love dressing up and who don’t care about the way others see them. Dressing up is a fun way for them to express themselves with the fun excuse of a holiday.
But even some of the people who don’t dress up, don’t see an issue with people dressing up. It is just something that isn’t their personal style, but they don’t see anything wrong with others doing it.
Jonah Whittaker, sophomore, said, “I don’t dress up, but I don’t really see a problem with it. Personally I just think it’s kinda unnecessary, but I don’t really have any judgment against the people that do dress up.”
All in all no one’s opinions should contribute to whether or not you decide to dress up for something. Expressing yourself and having fun with how you dress is something that no one should be able to take away from you. People will definitely all have their own opinions but what matters most is how you let them affect you.
It makes my day better when I see my dog.
