What would you do if you had to run a 100 meter race in below freezing temperatures? Leesville offers many different sports between the fall and spring seasons. But what time of year do our student-athletes prefer to play in, and does the weather have anything to do with that opinion?
During the fall and winter seasons, Leesville offers football, men’s soccer, women’s tennis, golf, cross country, and women’s flag football. But would it be more enjoyable if these were payed during a warmer season?
Many of the boys and girls who participated in these sports had mixed opinions on whether they’d prefer to have their sport be in the opposite season.
Dean Henshall, junior, said, “With football,l the fall weather is good because of the nice breeze and the fall environment, but if I could change when it is I’d probably prefer it be in the spring. Just because you don’t really have to worry about the cold as much, and I personally prefer the hot weather.”
The opinion also truly depends on the type of person and personal preferences. While many prefer the crisp chill that comes with playing outdoors in the later months of the year, others prefer to soak up the sun and basque in the heat.
During the spring season, Leesville offers many exciting outdoor sports– men’s tennis, lacrosse, track and field, women’s soccer, softball, and baseball.
Many of the people who have thus far participated in Leesville’s spring sports are enjoying themselves.
Aidan Flynn, sophomore, said, “I personally prefer to play tennis in the spring compared to the fall or winter. The weather feels nicer and I feel like I play better in the warmer weather.”
On the contrary, some of those who participate in fall and winter sports prefer the spring weather.
Ben Stone, junior, said, “Soccer season at school is in the fall, but I would rather play in the spring because it’s cooler but not too cold.”
But not everyone prefers the warm weather. Many others prefer the cooler temperatures because it’s very easy to get tired when you are sweaty and hot. And many athletes and people in general get bad allergies which can significantly affect their choice on which seasonal sport is better for them.
Kendall Rhodes, sophomore, said, “I would honestly rather play in the winter because the pollen gets so bad in the spring and it just makes everything harder.”
Without the aspect of pollen and allergies, spring seems to be a fan favorite for the athletes of Leesville Road High School. There are still a couple of mixed opinions but for the most part spring season takes the win on the most preferred season to play sports in.
