What is Leesville Road High School’s dance team?

Leesville’s arts department offers dance as an elective for any student to take. There are different class levels as well as a dance team. This year, tryouts for the dance team are on March 25 from 2:30-4:00 in the black box.

The dance team is an after-school activity during the fall. This is for advanced dancers who perform at Leesville’s football and basketball games. They also have their own showcase.

In order to join, you have to fill out the forms and get teacher recommendations, then you audition. While Leesville’s dance classes offer a large variety of dance styles, the dance team focuses on hip hop and jazz.

“We typically do a lot of pom, and we do a lot of hip hop and jazz. Pom is basically like jazz, but you’ve got the pom,” said Gabby Harris, junior.

Leesville also offers dance classes. Any student interested in dance can enroll. There is no previous experience required because of the different class levels available. There are beginning, intermediate, proficient, and dance ensembles.

Students new to dance will be put in beginning dance; however, everyone will be given an opportunity to audition for intermediate. Beginning dance is an academic-level class, while the rest are honors-level classes.

Students who are interested in choreographing and working on technique for all styles of dance have the opportunity to take the class. Please email Ms. Carr at scarr.wcpss.net with any questions.
