Start to the Varsity Spring Sports Season

The spring varsity sports season is in full swing for Leesville athletics. Several teams have sprung off with strong records, while others are using the early part of the season to build chemistry and improve as the competition continues.

The women’s soccer team has started the season with a 4-1 record, showcasing dominant performances in each of their victories. Their only loss came in an even matchup against Heritage, where both teams battled to the final whistle. Despite the loss, the team demonstrated promising offensive and defensive play early in the season.

The men’s lacrosse team currently sits at 2-2, but their games have featured a wide range of results. In their wins, the Pride dominated opponents, defeating Panther Creek 18-0 and Wake Forest 10-0. However, the team also experienced a heartbreaking 9-8 double overtime loss to Heritage, a game that could have easily gone either way. In another matchup against Green Hope, Leesville held the lead at halftime, but ultimately fell 10-6 after losing momentum in the second half.

The women’s lacrosse team has a 1-4 record to begin the season. With many new players, some even new to the sport, the team is focusing on improving together. One highlight so far came during a site match at Corinth Holders, where Leesville beat Rolesville 15-0, showing the potential the team has as it continues to grow.

One of the strongest starts this spring belongs to the men’s tennis team, which is currently 6-0. Across those matches, the team has won 54 out of 62 individual matches, giving them an impressive 87.1% win percentage.

The softball team has also opened the season well with a 2-1 record. They kicked off conference play with a 20-1 win over Athens Drive. Their next matchup is scheduled for March 17 at 4:30 p.m. at home against Millbrook.

Information for men’s golf, stunt, and outdoor track and field has yet to be posted or recorded on MaxPreps, but those teams are also underway as the spring season progresses.

With the majority of each sport’s season still ahead, Leesville’s spring sports teams have already provided exciting moments and growing anticipation for the games to come. As practices continue and players gain more experience playing together, many of these teams will look to refine early flaws and build off early success.
