This year is the first year Leesville’s athletic conference, NCHSAA 8A Cap 8, has had Millbrook in it, since 2021. Millbrook has been a long standing rivalry for Leesville, in all different sports. Are sport teams worried about this return, or are they waiting and prepared to defeat Millbrook?
Last week, LRHS baseball competed against Millbrook. Baseball played on March 17 and won 4-2.
“We won the game, but Millbrook was pretty good. It was a close game… Millbrook used to be a big rival for the baseball team before they left our conference,” said Huntley Langlois, junior.
Soon, the women’s soccer team will play Millbrook, a long awaited rivalry game.
Leesville’s women’s soccer team hasn’t played Millbrook for a long time, and expect a competitive game.
Katie Fuhrer, junior, said, “Last year our out of conference game against Millbrook got cancelled due to weather… This year Millbrook is supposed to be really good and it should be a competitive game.”
Leesville’s men’s lacrosse team played Millbrook last year, in an out of conference game.
“Last year we played them and won 8-3, but it was a close game for a while… This year should be pretty competitive… especially since now they are in conference… they are good but we are prepared to play them,” said JJ Shilliday, senior.
Leesville Road athletic director, Coach Frazier, has seen the Leesville vs Millbrook rivalry come to be.
“Leesville vs Millbrook is one of the best rivalries in North Carolina High School Sports. It doesn’t matter the sport, the intensity and atmosphere is unmatched,” said Frazier, “In high school sports, the old saying is ‘tradition never graduates’… this rivalry is a Raleigh tradition that we love.”

It makes my day better when I say hi to someone I haven’t seen or talked to in a while.
