What is the HOSA Drive?

Students seeking a simple, meaningful way to earn service hours while giving back to the community have an exciting opportunity with the upcoming HOSA donation drive. For every three donated items, students receive one hour of service.

Items can be dropped off in Room 1301, making participation quick and convenient. Any student is able to donate, not just HOSA members. The last day to donate is March 12, so students are encouraged to contribute as soon as possible.

The donation drive encourages students to bring in everyday necessities that can make a big difference for others. Accepted items include non-perishable food, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, tampons, and pads. These items are often in high demand, and donations help Wake Relief continue serving community members facing food insecurity and financial hardship.

“Last semester, we partnered with Poe Health Center, and this semester, we’re doing it with Wake Relief. I think that both of them go along with the mission of service and helping the community. And both of those organizations are tied to people’s health, through either their bodily health, or healthy food, and making sure everybody has access to materials that can make them healthy,” said Naomi Lehavot, senior.

In addition to donation-based hours, there is an in-person volunteering opportunity at Wake Relief on March 14 from 9 am to 11 am, allowing students to see firsthand how their efforts help the community. This option is ideal for students who want a more hands-on service experience. There is no sign-up required; any student willing to spend time volunteering is able to go.

“Overall, as a student body, people [students] could definitely be more involved in this, but I think as members, we do a pretty good job,” said Ella Jack, junior.

The HOSA donation drive is an accessible way for students to fulfill service requirements while supporting an important cause. By donating a few essential items, students can earn hours, help those in need, and strengthen the connection between the school and the local community.
