A new club arrives at Leesville

LRHS has welcomed a new opportunity for students who are interested in why people behave and think the way they do. The Psychology club is a student-led program that gives members a chance to explore topics surrounding the human mind and behaviors.

The Psychology club was founded by a small group of students at Leesville who share an interest in the human mind. The club aims to create a space where members feel free to be themselves and make new friends while learning at the same time. “I want to create an open space for people to feel comfortable talking about mental health and the study of the mind,” said Valentina Velez, sophomore Co-president.

Since this club is student-led, the members have a strong say in what they learn and do. Members are able to suggest experiments and projects that they feel would help them and the club. The club also has a very diverse member base, including freshmen through seniors, allowing them to meet people outside of their grade. The diversity in this club helps members expand their social circle and promotes open-mindedness through peers from different grade levels.

As juniors and seniors start to focus on college and fill their schedules with required classes, the Psychology club is a great way to explore an interest in psychology without taking an actual class. “With all the requirements for college, not everyone can take an elective class like that,” said Darby Moreschi, a junior.

Overall, the Psychology club gives LRHS students a welcoming place to discuss the mind and mental health, while connecting with others who share the same interests – turning an ordinary school topic into a supportive community surrounding psychology.

Students who are interested in joining can check the club’s Instagram page for meeting times and the room numbers.
