Advisory takes place every Wednesday from 8:52-9:22, for thirty minutes. I sit in advisory and do nothing, so why, when I ask to use the bathroom, does it become an issue?
Students are not allowed to use the bathroom for the first 10 or last 10 minutes of each class. Once you add in the time of advisory and transition periods, that is 64 minutes that students are not allowed to use the bathroom. Are we genuinely expected to hold it for over an hour?
“I don’t think it’s fair, because everybody needs to go to the bathroom, so if you can’t go during certain times of the day, that’s really unfair,” said Noah Rosato, senior.
Students are allowed to use the bathroom during transition periods, but students don’t have enough time to. Many students try to use the bathroom during transition periods causing overcrowding in the already few bathrooms.
“It’s hard to get to your classes with all the kids, and I always don’t get to class in time if I go to the bathroom,” said Wren Stanton, sophomore.
Many students agree that not being able to use the bathroom during advisory is unfair to students. In a poll conducted by the Mycenaean, 98% of students said that it is unfair to students.
“A lot of kids don’t like to leave during class time because they will miss something, so it makes sense to [open up the bathrooms during advisory],” said Stanton.
Advisory was not a part of students’ weekly schedule until after teachers were required to be stationed outside of bathrooms, meaning students were never allowed to have bathrooms open during advisory.
Bathrooms are closed during advisory due to the fact that teachers station outside of the bathroom, and all teachers have an advisory class. The school originally closed the bathrooms due to vaping issues.

It makes my day better when I’m listening to good music and drinking a nice coffee.
